GOSHEN, MA – The Hampshire County Executive Committee voted yesterday to ask for $6,000 a year to lease space on their Goshen communications tower to a cable television company.
Committee members will bring their proposal to the full board next week. They made their recommendation based on a report by county planner Geoff Rogers, who said that a proposal from AMREC Cable Television Co. to pay $600 a year for use of the tower and nearby land in Goshen was much lower than the going rate.
Rogers said space on a tower at the top of Mount Tom goes for $1,000 per month, as does space on the Pelham Fire Tower. The AMREC proposal averages $50 per month for 15 years.
Under the proposal voted by the Executive Committee, the county would charge $`6,000 per year or $1 per subscriber per month, whichever is higher, for five years. The contract would also include options to renew the contract at five years and 10 years.
