Community Champion Award

WILLIAMSBURG, MA – Goshen Fire Chief Susan Labrie was given a Community Champion award by Florence Bank this week for going above and beyond to make our region better.

She was nominated by Linda Judd of Goshen. You might recall that Linda’s son Phil and daughter-in-law Jessica the their 4 sons lost their home to a devastating fire in January.

In a quote that was part of an article about the fire written by Fran Ryan in the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Phil was quoted as saying:

“Judd also noted that his children are trained in how to respond to fire. He credited the educational programs of the Goshen Fire Department and Fire Chief Labrie with helping his family well before Friday’s tragedy.”

“The Goshen Fire Chief comes to the school and teaches the kids what to do in case of a fire, and we have gone over our evacuation plan quite a bit, so the boys knew exactly what to do.”

Phil was referring to the Student Awareness of Fire Education or S.A.F.E. program Chief Labrie has been teaching at the New Hingham Regional Elementary School since it opened in 1998.

Enough depositors at the bank agreed and voted Sue the winner.

The award came with a $500 donation to the charity of Sue’s choice. As you can see in the video below, it didn’t take long for her to make a decision. The check was deposited into the account of the Goshen Firefighter’s Association before we left the bank.

We’d like to express our gratitude to those who supported Sue and continue to support the efforts of the Goshen Fire Department.
