GOSHEN, MA – The Open Space Committee is sponsoring “Finding a Silver Lining: Dealing with Ice Storm Damage to Trees and Forests” at the Goshen Town Hall, March 26th 7 to 9 p.m., to help Hilltown residents learn from the experts about their options for dealing with damage to our trees and forests from the December ice storm.
Ice storms are natural events, and there is time to plan a thoughtful response, according to Paul Catanzaro, Forest Resources Specialist, UMASS, who will describe how to assess and document damage to trees and forests, what to do and when, and when to let nature take her course.
Bob Goss, Tree Warden, will describe his role in protecting Goshen’s trees. Jim McSweeney, Arborist, Hilltown Tree and Garden, explains how to handle tree damage in yards and when people need the help of a professional. Goshen Fire Chief Sue Labrie will talk about the best ways to reduce fire risk from downed trees and limbs and good management practices for dealing with the brush. Finally, Larry Holmberg, Goshen / Chesterfield Emergency Management Director, will describe what he needs from property owners to document ice storm damage-related costs.
The event is free and open to all. Refreshments will be served.
