GREENFIELD, MA – Rural Community Fire Protection grants have been awarded to four Franklin County fire districts or towns, state Rep. Shaun P. Kelly, R-Dalton, announced yesterday.
Colrain, Gill and Shelburne Falls will each receive the maximum award of $1,800, while Bernardston will get $925.
The federal money is distributed by the state Department of Environmental Management as reimbursement for costs of organizing rural fire-fighting departments, or training and equipping firefighters. The money is applied for by community fire wardens.
Franklin County received the majority of the grants. Others awarded money were Goshen and Westhampton in Hampshire County, and Sandisfield in Berkshire County, each receiving $1,800.
