GOSHEN, MA – Firefighters from Chesterfield, Goshen and Williamsburg recently attended a series of three Mass Fire Academy Impact Drills. The drills, which were hosted by each of the towns, were held over a period of three weeks in March.
The first class on Common Emergencies was held on March 3rd in the Goshen fireshouse. The training provided an overview of calls firefighters face on an everyday basis – electrical problems, heating problems, natural gas, water leaks, vehicle fires, bedroom fires, kitchen fires, and trash fires.

The second class on Vehicle Fires was held at the Chesterfield Grange Hall on Tuesday, March 10th. The course was designed to familiarize firefighters with the hazards encountered in vehicle fires and the life safety hazards associated with fighting fires in all types of vehicles.

The third class on Natural Gas / Propane Gas Awareness was held at the Anne T. Dunphy School in Williamsburg. The discussion centered around what firefighters should think about when responding to reported gas emergencies including where to park the apparatus and how to approach a gas emergency scene. While the Hilltowns don’t have natural gas, there is a possibility that we could be called to one that does through our Mutual Aid agreements.
This co-operative class drill was sponsored by the Chiefs and Training Officers of Chesterfield, Goshen and Williamsburg. The classes were created by the Massachusetts Fire Academy which provides one class a year to all departments in the state as a way to promote good training practices between co-operating towns.
