George D. Judd, at 86; Former Goshen Official

GOSHEN, MA – George D. Judd, 86, of 164 Berkshire Trail West, a former town official, died Wednesday in the home in which he was born.

He served on the Planning Board, the Zoning Committee and the Goshen 175th Anniversary Committee. He also served in the Fire Department in its early days.

He owned and operated George D. Judd & Son Goshen Stone for Landscaping Co. A lifelong Goshen resident, he delivered stone as a young man and bought the quarry which was to become the foundation of his stone business. He held commonwealth blasting license No. 1 for 50 years.

Born in Goshen, he graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1933 and was class president. He also graduated from the former Northampton Commercial College.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, the former Charlotte Deane; a son, Francis D., and three daughters, Mary Lou Joyner, Martha Monaghan and Carolyn Judd, all of Goshen; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

The funeral and burial in Goshen Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. Pease Funeral Home of Northampton is in charge.
