Guard May Demolish Fire Station

GOSHEN, MA – The state National Guard has tentatively agreed with a town request to demolish the town’s old fire station on Route 9.

Though the town budgeted $10,000 for the demolition, town meeting failed to approve. Planning Board member Dale Morrow suggested the National Guard may be available for the job.

Fire Chief Francis Dresser told selectmen last week that Lt. Col. Richard T. Kiska told him in a letter that the guard would be available for the job. But the guard will need liability waivers from selectmen and verification electricity will be disconnected and than no hazardous waste (including asbestos) is present, and that demolition materials will be legally disposed of.
