Raymond E. Morin, Forester, Selectman

GOSHEN, MA – Raymond E. Morin, 54, of 1 Williams Drive, a state forester, town fireman, and civic leader, died on Sunday at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton after a long illness.

He worked at the Daughters of the American Revolution State Forest for 23 years, and served most recently as assistant supervisor.

He worked previously at the Daily Hampshire Gazette of Northampton for nine years, and in the Goshen General Store, which his family has owned for 23 years.

He served in the town’s Fire Department for 24 years, and the Ambulance Service for 10 years. He served on the Board of Selectmen for 11 years until 1995.

Born in Northampton, he was a 1962 graduate of St. Michael’s High School. He moved here later.

He was a Red Cross instructor and a director of Camp Howe.

He leaves his wife, the former Jaymes P. Thomas; a son, James E. of Williamsburg; a daughter, Judi Morin of Goshen; his mother, Margaret (Duplisse) Morin, and sister, Peggy St. Martin, of Easthampton, and a niece.

There are no services, and the burial will be at Goshen Cemetery in the spring. There will be a gathering of relatives and friends at the Whale Inn on March 28. Amherst Funeral Home is in charge.
