ASHFIELD, MA – A family sugar house on Bug Hill Road was destroyed by fire last night.
Fire Chief Douglas M. Field said no one was injured in the blaze. A home only three feet away was in jeopardy, but firefighters were able to keep it from burning, he said.
The early evening fire was called in by owner of the property, Chester Provost, at 1294 Bug Hill Road, operator of the non-commercial sugar house.
Field said help came in from the Goshen, Plainfield, Hawley, Buckland, Conway, Shelburne Falls and Shelburne Center fire departments, and the South Deerfield department stood by as backup at the Ashfield station.
