Car Leaves Roadway, Airbags Deployed, Vehicle Totaled, Driver Alive

GOSHEN, MA – Goshen firefighters, MA State Police, and Highland Ambulance personnel were called to the area of 86 Spruce Corner Road for a report of a motor vehicle crash with airbag deployment at 0120 hours on Saturday.

The ‘reporting party’ was the cars Automatic Crash Notification system which was activated when airbags deployed and provided our dispatch center with the approximate location of the accident..

The debris field from the accident stretched between 4 utility poles.

When the car left the roadway, dirt from the road’s edge was strewn across both lanes. The car clipped one large ash tree, causing significant damage to the entire length of the passenger side, then became airborne. When it rolled, the trunk popped open and ejected tools stored there – some nearly 200′ – back onto Spruce Corner Road.

The car traveled several hundred feet in the breakdown lane before going airborne just before the tree to the right of Engine 2.

The driver of the late model Toyota Camry was able to exit the vehicle after it came to rest in a field approximately 50′ from the edge of the road and was then taken to Cooley Dickenson Hospital in Northampton with non-life threatening injuries.

Firefighters, along with the tow truck operator from Cahillaine’s, cleared the road of dirt, nails, glass and other debris before returning in service shortly after 3AM.
