Head-on Collision Sends One to Hospital; Closes Down Route 9

GOSHEN, MA – A head on collision between two cars early Friday morning sent one driver to Cooley Dickinson Hospital.  The crash occurred just below the straighaway east of the Whale Inn curve on Route 9.

A late season snowfall blanketed the region with a coating of heavy wet snow that contributed to the slippery road conditions.  A driver travelling eastbound towards Northampton lost control of their car and crossed into oncoming traffic striking another car heading westbound towards Pittsfield.  The vehicle of that car was injured and transported to the hospital by a crew from Highland Ambulance.

For the safety of rescuers, Route 9 was closed in both directions.  Motorists were detoured onto South Main Street for several hours.
