Skating on Thin Ice Ends with Rescue

Williamsburg, MA – On December 23rd, 2023 at around 12:45 PM, the Williamsburg Fire Department, Highland Ambulance, and Massachusetts State Police were dispatched to Briar Hill RD at the beaver pond due to an ice skating accident. On the way to the scene, Williamsburg Fire Chief Connell requested Goshen Fire and Northampton Fire and Rescue to respond with their ice rescue equipment.
 
Upon arrival, responders found a male individual approximately 400 feet from the shore, who had fallen through the ice up to his chest. Goshen Fire deployed their rescue boat with two firefighters and were able to successfully rescue the party from the water. After being brought back to shore, the patient received medical attention from Highland Ambulance paramedics and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
