Structure Fire on Bug Hill Road in Ashfield Destroys Home

It's not a fair fight

ASHFIELD, MA – Goshen firefighters answered a mutual aid call to Bug Hill Road in the town of Ashfield at 0427 hours this morning for a structure fire.

Firefighters responded in Engine 2 and Car 1. When we arrived on scene a short time later, the home which had been burning for a long time had already collapsed into the basement.

Reports from the fireground indicated that the property had been vacant for some time and that power to the home had been shut off years ago.

In order to completely extinguish the fire, teams worked to remove sheets of metal roofing that were covering the debris pile in the basement.

A crew from Highland Ambulance provided medical monitoring of first responders while units from Buckland, Conway, Hawley, Plainfield Shelburne Falls (station coverage) also assisted Ashfield Fire.

The Fire Marshall’s unit of the Massachusetts State Police was called to help determine the cause of the blaze.
